Dan here from Gear 4 Gears, I've not done a review in a while so thought I'd give one of my honest reviews on the current kit I am using! It's going to be long so grab a cuppa!
From the top!
Caberg Modus Helmet - £224.99
P&J Dual Homologated with a great cradle locking mechanism, good vents and comes with Pinlock. Very comfortable easy to use flip but come the motorway you will suffer with wind noise, bear with me though it is a flip top! Now I love to ride with my intercom and for the helmets I've used this one allow perfect position for it and not once have I had ear pinch which causes horrific pain - conclusion a strong favourite in our range and you should try it on for size!
Moving on Down
Spada Explorer Jacket - £169.95
Based on a three layer system makes this an all year round jacket. I've used it since August 2013 and given we live in England that has seen some weather. The jacket has great specificions and is very tough which is aimed at its adventure market. Soft cuffs and collar leaves no sores and the pockets have velcro flaps and tapered zips so good waterproofing. Now basics I have not once got wet, that doesn't mean it's fully waterproof to point where I considered going deep sea diving but the inner liner hasn't failed me once and I ride everyday averaging 30 miles each way. The outter jacket can get saturated but allowing to air dry and it's fine. I've found on the down side that it is nice and warm with little added extras such as Spada Chill Factor base layers on a windy cold day. The lows are the two main cargo pockets which has now shown signs if wear as the Velcro has started to go on the corners and in a heavy down pour they leek but the others pockets which I do use have lasted well! Love this jacket especially in summer when you remove the layers and open the vents its light and airy.
Prestige-Tech Gloves - £49.95
These are brilliant with the added extra of a visor wipe and padding in the palm decreases bar vibrations then on another good note you get a tapered zip on the top cuff to allow a wide gauntlet style glove. I will put these at a three season glove for me as over Xmas I assumed the routine of screaming in my helmet with pain of what I believed to be frost bite noaring at my finger tips at 6 am along the M4! But I do suffer with bad hand blood circulation that sometimes I look dead. Saying this I still thank Spada for keeping me dry, Hipora are a good membrane to use. Down side I am usually a large in glove size but in these I am a small all because the fingers are so so so long so bear in mind when trying on.
Spada Endo - £109.95
Awesome to keep me dry. Warmth wise I can't pass comment as I never have the thermal in, plus I am more a Hornee Jeans man which I now wear on a daily basis which I strongly recommend to all blokes as they are so comfortable and don't degrade around the heel and crotch!!
Spada Trek - £89.95
Substantial adventure/touring boot with adjustable ratchet clip fastening with a large Velcro flap. Now for the money I thought I was not going to get much but the tread on the sole is so deep you could go pot holing and this allows great traction in the wet and the comfort is plush! Brilliant for my wide feet and on my 1000 mile UK north trip found them usable to walk in down in the white scar caves! Not a single drop has wet my socks but after 8 months and a cocktail of road salt and temperature change the leather on the front toes has started to crack but has it effected the boot oh no no no!!! The protection is brilliant as proven when a lovely kinda hearted driver drove over my foot as I was waited at lights slightly off set and he wanted to right next to me to make sure I was okay and in doing so put his front wheel over my boots! I thanked him of course for testing the protection.
Now that is the end of my kit review.
So lastly I want to recommend for all bikers preparing for the new year get some Nikwax Tech Wash to wash them through and then 're-proof it with Nikwax TX-Direct Spray - makes a world of difference and puts new life to your items. Boot polish in gloves and Boots it's of more benefit than I first thought aswell.
We are all bikers and learn from each other at Gear 4 Gears we are community and are always there to help and if we can't we will put you in the right direction.
